Turkey Chili – Slow Cooker – Freezer Meal

My Cost $8.94 plus additional cost for toppings.  I already had olive oil and spices.

Ingredients
1 pound ground Turkey
1 teaspoons olive oil
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 yellow onion, chopped
1 bell pepper, chopped
3 tablespoons chili powder (mild)
2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 (28-ounce) can diced tomatoes
1 cup chicken broth
2 cans dark red kidney beans (drained, rinsed)
1 can sweet corn (drained, rinsed)
1 Gallon Freezer Bag
Toppings: cheese, sour cream, green onions

Instructions
1. Place oil in a large skillet over medium high heat. Add in onion and garlic sauté for 3-5 minutes. Add in ground turkey and break up the meat to the consistency you desire. Cook ground turkey to over 165 degrees Fahrenheit or until meat is no longer pink.
2. Let meat cool
3. In freezer bag add: bell pepper, chili powder, ground cumin, dried oregano, cayenne pepper, salt, large can of diced tomatoes, chicken broth, kidney beans and corn.
4. Add in cooled meat
5. Seal bag and place in freezer until ready to cook.
6. Add to crock pot frozen or let thaw over night.
7. Cook for 4 – 6 hours on low
8. Adjust seasonings to taste by adding more if needed.

Top with cheese, sour cream or green onions.
Makes 6 servings, about 1 1/2 cups each

This Turkey Chili recipe is a great comfort food that is wonderful for a make ahead party meal.
