This years Sales Tax Holiday is August  11^th –  13^th

This exempts most BACK TO SCHOOL ITEMS.  Such as clothes, shoes, school supplies, backpacks and some calculators/computers priced less than $100 each.   If you buy 4 shirts for $90 each then each shirt would be tax exempt. That would save you about $8 per $100 that you spend.  The savings can add up!

Items that you can save money by not paying tax include:

Clothing and Footwear: under $100 each
Backpacks: under $100 each
School supplies: under $100 each

There is a huge list of tax free items for this weekend.  Items include, clothing footwear, school supplies, computers, but check the list because some items do not qualify for the tax free perks.

Athletic items are an Example:  Tennis shoes are tax free as long as they are under $100 but golf cleats are not.  The reasoning behind this is that the Golf shoes can only be used for Golf and not regular wear.  The same type of scenario applies to a football a jersey,  that is tax free, as long as, it is under $100 but football pads are not.  Double check the tax free list so that there are no surprises.

Ways to save on Tax Free Weekend:

1. Plan ahead: Know clothes and shoe sizes and know what school supplies are needed.  Have your list of items that you need and follow your list.  You can save money by not making impulse buys.
2. Compare Prices: Look at the sales ads, know who has the lowest price on the item you want to buy.
3. Use coupons when available to save even more on the items that you are buying.
4. Layaways: think holidays!  Place qualifying items on layaway during the tax free weekend.  This will save you the tax and you have time to pay off your items.
5. Shop Early Bird or Late Night Specials. Many stores will have extended hours.  Go early or late to avoid the crowds.
