Guest Post: What’s the Best Thing That Never Happened To You?

Have you ever wanted something so badly only to find out it wasn’t in the cards for you? The promotion didn’t come through. The house we wanted was purchased by someone else. The relationship we devoted ourselves to ended. The university we dreamed of attending didn’t accept us. We didn’t make the team. We all have our fair share of disappointment, but we can’t let it hold us down. I was on Facebook the other day and came across this video from the wrestler turned actor, Dwayne The Rock Johnson, and it spoke to me so much I had to share it. Please watch it (and excuse his colorful language)!

In his very colorful way, he explained how failing at achieving his dream of playing in the NFL was “the best thing that NEVER happened.” Stop and think about times you didn’t achieve a particular dream. Obviously, that is disappointing, but if we change our viewpoint and realize that one door closing may be allowing a better one to open, we can focus on moving forward toward a new version of success.

The Dwayne Johnson video reminded me of Garth Brook’s song, “Unanswered Prayers.” It centers around a man going back to his high school for a football game and running into his old girlfriend. As he reminisces about how he prayed that they would be together he thanks God for his unanswered prayers. His life is very happy, and he has an incredible wife.

Realizing that everything may happen for a reason can really help us focus on moving forward when we get the wind taken out of our sails. Accept that we can’t see into the future. When one door closes, another opens. We have to have faith that we are on the right path, accept that there will be setbacks along the way, pick ourselves up when we get knocked down, and keep our eyes open for opportunities. Let’s commit to moving forward in spite of obstacles. A wonderful life awaits!

When I need to dust myself of and move forward, I always start with a new lipstick or some other beauty booster. Sally Beauty is my go to store for a boost.
