“Sustainable Living in Houston’s mission is to provide education and resources to those living in the Greater Houston area with limited
or no knowledge about the environment and sustainable living.
Some of our focuses include recycling, alternative transportation, organic/local foods and childhood education.”
“We are a non-profit environmental group that helps educate Houstonians about recycling, eating local/organic foods, using earth-friendly products to clean your home and generally how to live a ‘greener’ lifestyle.
We are having our 2nd Annual “Drop & Swap” event on November 14, 2009.
This free event promotes the recycling of items that might otherwise end up in a landfill. But, it is more than just a recycling event….To familiarize you with our plans, in the ‘Drop’ portion of the event (8:00 – noon), participants will drop off electronics, computers, household batteries, cell phones, and much more to be recycled.
This will take place in the parking lot.
Inside they may drop off wearable clothing and usable household items that they no longer want/need.
Whoever participates in the ‘Drop’ portion becomes a VIP. VIP’s will be able to get in an hour early to the “Swap” portion of the event (4:00 – 7:00) where they may ‘shop’ and take home anything they want/need for free.
This is where it gets really fun. We are going to be handing out “Green Scene Bags” to the first 250 people who come to the ‘Swap’ portion. These bags are re-usable totes and will include samples and discount coupons for green/environmentally-friendly/organic goods and services. There will also be information about green living.
We are also having ‘Project Re-Use’ where aspiring designers will use items of clothing that have been ‘dropped’ and re-make them into a brand new outfit. There will be a fashion show and the winners of the competition will win prizes.
We will have music and wine will be available for purchase. We want to make it a fun event!”

What a great way to get rid of the things you are no longer using and get the things that you are needing. Also, bring all those recyclables!
Sounds like a great event…
Hope to see you there!
