My Shopping Trip + Challenge for You!

I went to Kroger to buy a few things.

Basically, I needed boneless skinless chicken breasts that were on sale for $1.88 per pound.

I shopped around the store and came up to the chicken breast on sale. In front of the display was this elderly woman with her walker inside her cart. She was taking her time looking at each package and I was patiently waiting.

I thought to myself, should I offer to help her find the perfect package?

Or what exactly was she looking for?

I waited about a minute longer and then went around her to the other side and picked out my package of chicken.

At this point, I notice that she has moved on from the sale packs to the smaller ribmeat chicken packs.

I think to myself, maybe it is just her and she does not need a family pack of chicken breasts.

I made my selection, so I move on to the produce department.

Completing my shopping, I head towards the register.

The same lady is going towards the cashier too. I let her go in front of me and think to myself, should I help her unload her groceries? (When I have done this in the past, I always get weird looks) I decided to let her handle it herself.

Then, I decide that I will pay for her groceries and tell the cashier. I swipe my credit card and they pack up the lady’s groceries into her cart. She turns around and grabs me, pulls me in to a bear hug and thanks me in Spanish. She even said a little prayer for me. It was such a beautiful experience all I could say to her was Thank YOU! (in Spanish)

The young male cashier was in awe. He looked at me and asked, “Why did you do that?” I answered that I just thought it was the right thing to do. He said, “I have NEVER seen anyone do that before.” He thought it was pretty amazing to witness and the person bagging the groceries did too.

We complete my transaction and he tells me to have a nice day. Then he stops and says, you know, I say that to just about everyone, but YOU really deserve to have a Great Day!

I just smiled and walked out the store.

My challenge to you:

Do one random act of kindness.

Anything you want!

Large or small.

It does not have to be monetary, spread a smile or compliment a stranger.
