TXU Energy Presents: Chill Out at the Houston Zoo to Have a Snow Day This Saturday 7/21/12

TXU ENERGY SAYS: IT’S GOING TO SNOW IN HOUSTON – IN JULY!

Elephants Will Get Snowmen and Kids Can Play in the Snow at the Houston Zoo!

WHAT:

We’ll be doing a lot more than “chilling out” at the Houston Zoo this Saturday: We’ll be making it snow! Come join us for some truly unique summertime visuals celebrating TXU Energy Presents: Chill Out at the Houston Zoo, a summer-long program that provides lots of great ways to keep the animals –- and zoo guests – cool as the summer heat rises.

As part of this, the animals will enjoy baths, icy, popsicle-type treats, and other fun ways to beat the heat and zoo guests can stay cool with four permanent misting systems and more than 13 air-conditioned Chill Out Zones throughout zoo grounds.

In addition to the morning’s snow experiences for animals and guests, we’re also hosting an on-site scavenger hunt for kids, which involves fun stops at each chill zone and the prize of a free Sno Kone for those who complete it by 4 p.m.

WHY:

The four-foot-tall snowmen are actually planned enrichment for the elephants, who have never seen them, and who wouldn’t love to play in the snow and make their own snowmen on zoo grounds – in July?

WHEN/
WHERE:

SATURDAY, JULY 21, 2012 – 9 A.M.

The Houston Zoo — 6200 Hermann Park Drive  Houston, TX 77030

Compliments of TXU Energy, come see some cool summer fun on site at the zoo:

·         Elephants (babies and grown-ups) experiencing specially designed snowmen for the first time at 9:30 a.m. (Note: Please have cameras in place by 9:15)

·         Elephants also having a ‘smashing” good time with a summer staple, watermelons in their habitats

·         Children and zoo guests playing in the snow (snowy lawn) until 11:00 a.m.

·         Animals enjoying chilly treats (sprinklers for birds and primates, baths for elephants, popsicle-type treats for big cats and other animals).

·         Zoo visitors enjoying misting stations on zoo grounds and Chill Zones.

·         Children on Chill Out scavenger hunts (visiting each Chill Zone), earning free sno kones.

THE TXU ENERGY CONNECTION:

·         As part of its sponsorship of TXU Energy Presents: Chill out at the Houston Zoo, TXU Energy is has installed four permanent misting stations across the zoo in outdoor areas to help guests stay cool – and it’s highlighting more than 13 “Chill Out Zones,” or indoor air-conditioned locations, on zoo grounds.·         TXU Energy left the choices of how to keep the animals cool to the experts at the zoo, and, they’ve designed a few interesting ways that animals can chill out that are fun for the animals and the guests who watch them play.

·         Zoo guests can also pick up a few energy efficiency tips that can help them save electricity and money as they cool their homes this summer.
